"Back in Color" is a compelling exhibition showcasing Mario Soares' transformative artistic journey, evolving from his expertise in etching and printmaking to the dynamic use of spray paint, and now embracing mixed-medium collage. This body of work, developed largely in solitude, marks Soares' return to the public art scene with newfound energy and purpose. The exhibition reflects his exploration of vibrant colors, bold forms, and expressive techniques as he redefines his style and finds solace in the creative process. It invites viewers to witness his artistic evolution and the personal narrative behind each piece.
In this collection, there are two types of work: the collage and the paintings. Using cardboard, sellotape, fabric and glue, the collage works are three dimensional and have a think, built-up quality with the layering of various mediums. The works Soares calles paintings are acrylic spray which has been stencilled onto Fabriano. These have a flat texture but are multi-layered as he applies each field of colour.
