In Metamorphosis, Ingrid Uys reflects on transformation through the language of light. Her paintings, created in oil on perspex, paper, and canvas, inhabit a delicate equilibrium between reflection and opacity, between revelation and concealment. Through these shifting surfaces, Uys invites the viewer into a space where identity, memory, and emotion coexist in a constant state of renewal.

Guided by an intuitive sensitivity to material and gesture, Uys explores light as both subject and substance. Her compositions evoke the translucence of wings, the fragility of glass, and the sanctity of stained windows that hold both fragility and strength. Each painting becomes an invocation of the feminine self as luminous and resilient, embodying the quiet persistence of transformation.

Recurring motifs of moths and butterflies move through her work as symbols of endurance and rebirth. Their wings, layered with subtle pigment and transparency, carry the stories of womanhood - mother, artist, self - each one a vessel of memory and becoming. Through this imagery, Uys celebrates light not merely as illumination, but as a profound metaphor for introspection, healing, and growth.

In Metamorphosis, Uys reveals transformation as an act of grace. Her paintings remind us that light exists only in conversation with shadow, and that beauty arises in the continuous unfolding of the self. Through her vision, metamorphosis becomes a poetic meditation on the quiet, radiant strength that defines our shared humanity.
