• Tufted Wool Collaboration

Better Days consists of two works: the original 2025 hand-tufted wool tapestry, created in collaboration between Andrew Mogridge and Shariffah Arewa, and a silkscreen edition of 25 that offers a related visual interpretation.

Created in collaboration with textile artist Shariffah Arewa, the hand-tufted wool tapestry (2025) serves as the original work, accompanied by a limited silkscreen edition that extends its layered themes. Both versions offer a portal into Mogridge's ongoing artistic project: to find levity within existential uncertainty and to challenge the viewer to find meaning where none is prescribed.

In contrast, the silkscreen edition offers a more restrained, flattened palette. While still visually engaging, the colours are comparatively muted and graphic, shifting the emotional tone from one of enveloping warmth to a cooler, more detached reflection. This change in intensity subtly alters the interpretive experience, underscoring the piece’s philosophical underpinnings, reminding the viewer of the tension between surface and depth, illusion and substance.

"Better Days" Silkscreen edition of 25

"Better Days" continues my ongoing studio practice, which is rooted in absurdist philosophy and its recognition of the universe’s inherent indifference. Through a touch of ironic humor, I aim to offer a small moment of escape, a pause from the relentless cycles of global conflict and diplomatic failure. Using his whimsical faux-naïf style, and embracing wit along with frequent political commentary, Andrew Mogridge explores the more playful side of visual interpretation.

Andrew Mogridge’s Better Days exemplifies his signature approach of blending absurdist philosophy, political commentary, and whimsical visual storytelling. Known for his faux-naïf style and ironic humor, Mogridge resists linear narratives, instead constructing symbolic compositions that encourage open-ended interpretation. This piece continues that ethos, drawing on archetypes to evoke a sense of personal mythology unique to each viewer.
