The Candice Berman Gallery is thrilled to present "Straight Forward: Just Black & White," a compelling duo exhibition featuring the works of Thando Ngwenya and Thandazani Ndlovu. This exhibition invites viewers to immerse themselves in the elemental interplay of light and shadow, as these two artists return to the fundamental principles of figure and composition with a unique and contrasting approach.

Thando Ngwenya's work is characterized by his use of black ink and acrylic on white Fabriano depictiing scene of meaningful memories of being with family. In contrast, Thandazani Ndlovu adopts a reverse approach by applying white highlights to a solid black canvas. His technique is one of revelation, where figures gradually emerge from the darkness, illuminated by strokes of white. Ndlovu's compositions are a testament to the power of light, as they bring to life the subtle contours and textures of the human body, inviting viewers to contemplate the interplay between presence and absence.

In celebrating the works of Thando Ngwenya and Thandazani Ndlovu, we are reminded that sometimes, the most profound statements are made in the simplest of terms.
