The joy of genuine intimacy is not lost on me
and I have been on a journey seeking love. Poetry warns me time and again that
it is more fruitful to seek instead all the barriers I have constructed against
it.
I guess I haven’t appreciated being seen
enough to be able to extend that courtesy to you. To see all the parts of you,
the good and the bad. To let me in on your existence, your pain, your dreams,
your lovers, your greatness. I wish I had been more curious about your soul
than I was about your beauty. Maybe I could have seen that you were never
there...
