FADA Gallery Ceramic Invitational Exhibition.

In celebration of the end of Mr Eugene Hön academic career at the University of Johannesburg. The exhibition is scheduled opened at the FADA Gallery on Saturday 26 August and ran until the 20 September.

The exhibition was by invitation only, every artist a renown South African contemporary ceramist. Showcasing their unique contribution to the development of contemporary ceramics in South Africa. As a group the exhibition embodied a broad range of ceramic functions including, expressive, decorative, utilitarian, ritualistic and often complex combinations of the fore. Demonstrating a diverse range of techniques and processes, each chosen work is masterfully crafted in form, shape, and surface development. The exhibition represents prominent South African Ceramists and aims to raise awareness of cutting-edge ceramics in South Africa. The exhibition was curated in such a way, as to maximise access to artist’s statement, through supporting visual and written documentation.

Each work/installation was carefully selected for its unique sculptural and or vessel format. Often derived from indigenous forms of cultural expressions or glocal ceramic drifts and traditions. However, each work is breaking new ground in clay, formed by hand and refined by fire to create dynamic statements, that challenge the way we look at ceramics, here and now and well into the future.

The chosen work or installation embodied the essence of the artist’s creative intent on all levels - a recent work or new creation.
