Provenance

This body of work is a representation of the different figurative sequences of emotions in response to an improvised sound piece by Daniel Stompie Selibe. Essentially, it is a translation of this sound piece performed with indigenous instruments. The series of prints is entitled ‘falling into one’ are reflective of the rhythmic motions as well as the unfiltered emotions (that fall into one another) the song transported me through, this is depicted through the loud, vivid, yet translucent colors employed in the prints. There are three layers of line and color on each print that represent the different sounds of the song; decisions around the color layering were greatly informed by the solfeggio sequence which speaks to the color of sound and the frequency of color. This art-making practice serves and reimagines conceptions and understandings of a certain idea through time, identity and tradition
