"My sculptures emerge from a fascination with form, balance, and character. Working in three dimensions allows me to explore the physical presence of a subject, whether human, animal, or imagined. Through the process of shaping and refining material, I seek to capture not only appearance, but also a sense of movement, personality, and emotional resonance."

Mark Swart is a South African artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, printmaking, and design. Over the course of a career that has included numerous exhibitions, public commissions, and collaborations, he has developed a distinctive visual language rooted in observation, humour, and storytelling. Drawing inspiration from everyday life, popular culture, music, and the natural world, Swart approaches art with a sense of curiosity and playfulness, creating works that are both accessible and richly layered with meaning.

Sculpture occupies a significant place within Swart's practice, providing a medium through which he explores form, character, and narrative in three dimensions. Whether working with the human figure, animals, or imagined subjects, he is interested in capturing personality and presence through simplified yet expressive forms. His sculptures often possess a quiet humour and warmth, inviting viewers to engage with familiar subjects in unexpected ways.

Working predominantly in bronze, Swart embraces the material's permanence while infusing his sculptures with a sense of movement, spontaneity, and life. Surface texture, gesture, and proportion become important tools in communicating emotion and character. Through his sculptural practice, he transforms everyday observations into timeless objects, celebrating the beauty, individuality, and shared experiences that connect us to one another and to the world around us.
