Working on a glass substrate, multi layers of printing ink are manually hand-rolled. Upon this heavy weight paper is pressed uplifting the ink layers from behind. So each layer of colour is a reverse process of application. The black lines you see as well as the artist's signature are "drawn" backwards in order for the image to appear the right way round.
