Candice Berman Gallery (Bryanston location and 223 Jan Smuts Creative Hub) stands in full solidarity with the national shutdown against Gender-Based Violence led by Women for Change.
As a women-owned and women-run gallery, we will be closed on 21 November in support of this action, and we join the call for GBV and femicide to be declared a national disaster. We have long engaged with themes of GBV through our art and curatorial work, and we believe that all of us have a responsibility to stand up for the safety and future of our country.
The safety, dignity and freedom of women and all people are non-negotiable, and we use our platform to demand urgent, accountable action to end this crisis.
