This started out as a test piece. I wanted to see how I could use the materials my child was enjoying at the time, khokis, crayon and wax crayons. I loved the result and mixed them with my choice of etching ink and printmaking the linocuts I had carved for our language. This was the first introduction to using pink spray paint, which features heavily in a lot of my work. I love layering with spray-paint, its loud, its brave and also uncertain, so many things can happen, and I love those moments of mishaps like over spray or drips… its what gives it character.
The layering and use of materials is a parallel for me and the connection with my children, loud and soft, colourful, multilayered and intense in areas.
